Sometimes it can feel like they\u2019re in the driver\u2019s seat, careening wildly from one extreme to the other, and all you can do is hang on for dear life and pray you don\u2019t crash. Physical experiences always come with emotions, whether they are fluctuations in heart rate or skin temperature, tightness and tension, or relaxation. No need to try to change any of this, either. In emotion meditation, anything is okay. Awareness is big enough to hold any emotion.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>\u00a0Awareness &gt; emotion<\/h3>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/qa.tergar.org\/lms-dev\/blog\/how-to-meditate\/as-it-is\/\">Awareness is like the sky<\/a> that can accommodate any weather. It allows any sensations and emotions to come and go. Think of them as weather events: sometimes there\u2019s a pink sunset or twinkling stars, sometimes a dark and stormy night, but the nature of the sky itself doesn\u2019t change. In the same way, the essence of awareness is not influenced by darkness or tumult. Even if, emotionally speaking, there\u2019s a Category 5 hurricane going on, awareness remains free, pure, and genuine.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/12&#8243; lms_has_clearfix=&#8221;0&#8243; offset=&#8221;vc_col-lg-2 vc_hidden-xs&#8221;][\/vc_column][\/vc_row][vc_row u_row_style=&#8221;1&#8243; lms_row_has_bk_offset=&#8221;0&#8243; lms_row_bk_columns_offset=&#8221;0&#8243; u_row_enrollment_restriction=&#8221;0&#8243;][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/12&#8243; lms_has_clearfix=&#8221;0&#8243; offset=&#8221;vc_col-lg-2 vc_hidden-xs&#8221;][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;5\/6&#8243; lms_has_clearfix=&#8221;0&#8243; offset=&#8221;vc_col-lg-8&#8243;][vc_column_text css=&#8221;.vc_custom_1656923972352{padding-top: 20px !important;padding-bottom: 40px !important;}&#8221; el_class=&#8221;subtittle-open-post&#8221;]<\/p>\n<h3>Getting space<\/h3>\n<p>Because we\u2019re not in the habit of recognizing awareness, <a href=\"https:\/\/qa.tergar.org\/lms-dev\/blog\/how-to-meditate\/overcoming-negative-thoughts\/\">it\u2019s easy to get lost in emotional tempests.<\/a> When big feelings come up, we often cry, \u201cI need some space! I need to get some distance!\u201d Yet space can often feel hard to come by when we need it most. It\u2019s important to understand that you don\u2019t need to look for or make space \u2014 watching your emotions creates space in and of itself. It\u2019s a bonus, an excellent byproduct.\u00a0 And, if you\u2019re trying to watch an emotion and it seems to disappear, that\u2019s fine too. Be with that.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>Keep it manageable<\/h3>\n<p>Watching emotions, using them as a support for meditation, is how to make friends with them. Learning to do this is a wonderful process, but be aware that it <i>is<\/i> a process. You can\u2019t necessarily make friends with super-intense emotions right out of the gate. Figuratively speaking, you need to start with rain showers before you can tackle hurricanes. Start with emotions you find relatively manageable. If a feeling is too overwhelming to watch, practice with one that feels less \u201chot\u201d for you. Once you practice for a while with emotions that you can handle, soon enough you\u2019ll find yourself thinking \u201cOh, hey, I can do this\u201d even with those hurricanes.[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_column][vc_column width=&#8221;1\/12&#8243;
